Alistrati Cave

The Alistrati cave is located six (6) kilometres south-east of the community of the same name, at the location "petroto". The area covers 14,000 stremmata. The Serres – Drama railway line passes 250 metres from the southern part of the cave entrance.

It is considered one of the most beautiful and largest in Greece, possibly even in Europe, where nature wished to show its greatest power in creating ornaments and formations.

At the entrance of the cave, we encounter a very beautiful hall 8 m high, which is its antechamber. From the antechamber, various passages of great height and extremely rich decoration of stalactites and stalagmites begin.

The main branches of the cave develop to the right and left of the entrance and begin from a large chamber, the reception chamber, which measures 60 m wide, 100 m long, and 20–30 m high. In this chamber, nature wished to show its greatest power in creating ornaments in the Greek or even European space. As the visitor proceeds, the decoration becomes richer with snow-white stalactites in the form of a curtain. Other chambers (halls) of 8 or 10 m height follow.

From the reception chamber, again to the right, a second passage or corridor starts, almost parallel to the one we saw. We encounter some impressive red stalactites, named "FLAMES", their height reaching approximately 35 m. At one point, the two passages join and continue wider and higher, while enormous and majestic stalactites 15 m long hang from the ceiling.

There are also floors in the cave that are countless and not yet known.
